Initially Katie, Milo and I were all extremely unsure on what to design for our Logo because we wanted to create something that was original and eye catching, without looking unprofessional and inappropriate for the Indie genre. Our first idea was to have a wil animal with massive headphones on it, listening to an iPod. Milo sketched this idea and initially we all liked the design but after looking at it, we decided that it wasn't very professional and it was therefore necessary to re-draft. Our favourite part of the design was the headphones because they look really edgy and have become increasingly popular in the market in recent years. On reflection, if we use an image that is relatable to the audience then they will be more likely to remember the label and discuss the artists that are connected to the label. Therefore when we were brainstorming our next design we knew that the large headphones needed to be encporporated. We didn't want to have a logo like Virgin Records or Syco because they are just the names of the recording company and this is quite bland, even though it does look quite professional. However, the indie genre has a more laid back approach and we therefore needed to incorporate this. Due to the sub-genre of pop we thought that the label needed to be laid back but still look appealing and professional. We therefore decided to keep the headphones and just have quite a simplistic recording company name. We wanted something that involved all three of us and therefore went with all of our first name initials; K, G and M. We tried it in all different formations and asked numerous people which one they thought sounded the most effective and rememberable and KGM got the deciding vote. KGM sounded quite ambiguous and didn't actually tell the audience what KGM was. We therefore thought that adding 'Sound' after the initials would tell the audience that the logo was for a recording company and it also added an element of professionalism.

Katie therefore began sketching the headphones, which were to be the main element of our logo and be what caught the audience's eyes. Katie then had the brilliant idea of putting 'KGM' in the wire of the headphones and this looks so effective and original and also fits the indie-pop genre that we are aiming at. Milo then uploaded the logo onto Corel Draw and editing the blemishes which were apparent to make the logo look flawless. The final part of the logo was to add 'sound' into the record name and as a group we collectively decided that it would look professional to have it typed in a sans serif font because it looks professional but doesn't look too serious. We thought that the lack of colour allowed the logo to be easily transferred onto any digipack and/or magazine advert.

Creation of our Logo

Overall I am very happy with our final logo because I think it fits the indie-pop genre we are appealing to because it isn't boring but still looks professional. The lack of colour allows it to be easily transferrable and the free-hand drawing that has been intensified on Corel Draw gives the logo originality.
